What to Expect After Your Ads Launch
Why new campaigns take time to ramp up, how the learning phase works, and when to expect results.
When your ads go live, it's natural to search for your business, expect to see your ad, and want calls and leads coming in right away. But a brand-new campaign doesn't perform at full strength on day one — it ramps up over a few weeks. Here's what's happening behind the scenes, so you know what to expect.
The short version: Your ads are live and eligible to show the moment we launch them. But Google takes a few days to start serving them, and the account needs roughly 20–30 days to fully stabilize. Slow early results are normal — and expected.
"Enabled" means your ads are live
When your campaign shows as Enabled, your ads are switched on and eligible to appear on Google Search and Maps. It does not mean they're being shown to everyone, everywhere, immediately.
In the first days after launch, Google is still working out when and where to show your ad within your budget. Until that settles, you might search for your business and not see your ad — that's normal. In fact, repeatedly searching for your own ad without clicking it can teach Google you're not a customer, so it's best to check your real numbers in the Reports tab instead.
The three phases of ramp-up
A campaign reaches steady results in order. We can't optimize clicks before your ad is being shown, and we can't optimize conversions before the clicks are coming in. Each phase builds on the one before it.
Impressions — the first few days
We work with Google to start showing your ad at a cost that makes sense within your budget. The goal at this stage is simple: get your ad in front of the right people at the right price.
Clicks — next
Once your ad is being shown consistently, we focus on the click-through rate — making sure the people seeing your ad are the ones likely to become customers, and that the ad gives them a reason to click.
Conversions — finally
With clicks coming in, we analyze and optimize what happens after the click: your landing page and the path to becoming a call or a lead. This is where clicks turn into real customers.
The learning phase
For roughly the first 20–30 days, your account is in what Google calls the learning phase. During this time, Google and the Outbound.com team are actively working out the bid strategy and placement, and results can be uneven from day to day. That's expected — the system is gathering the data it needs to perform predictably.
Once performance stabilizes — meaning we can reliably see how many conversions your budget produces — your account graduates into the ongoing optimization phase, where the focus shifts to maintenance and continuous improvements.
Please don't pause your campaigns during this period. Pausing resets progress and can send the account back into the learning phase, undoing the ramp-up. If you're concerned about early results, reach out — we'd much rather talk it through than lose the momentum.
What you can do
- Give it time. Judge performance over weeks, not days. The first couple of weeks are ramp-up, not a verdict.
- Check the Reports tab, not Google search. Your reports show real impression and click counts; searching for yourself doesn't.
- Tell us what you're hearing. If customers are calling or booking, let us know — real-world signal helps us optimize faster. And if a lead comes in that isn't a good fit, tell us right away and explain what made them wrong for your business. The sooner we hear about it, the quicker we can adjust who your ads reach.
Staying in the loop
During the ramp-up period, the Outbound.com team checks in regularly — usually at least once a week — to share performance, explain what we're seeing, and gather your feedback. You'll always know where things stand.
