Boosting a Post vs. Running Ads

Why we run real campaigns through a full ad account instead of using the "Boost post" button — and what the difference means for your results.

If you've spent time on Facebook or Instagram, you've seen the "Boost post" button. It's tempting — one click and your post reaches more people. But boosting and running real ads are very different things, and the difference has a big impact on the results you get for your money.

The short version: Boosting shows a post to more people and optimizes for likes and reach. A full ad account (what we run) optimizes for customers — leads, calls, and sales — with real targeting, tracking, and optimization. That's why we manage campaigns instead of boosting posts.

What "boosting" does

The Boost button takes a post you've already published and pays to show it to more people. It's quick and simple — and that simplicity is the catch:

  • It optimizes for engagement, not customers — you get likes, comments, and reach, which feel good but don't pay the bills.
  • Targeting is basic — you can't reach the specific, high-intent audiences a real campaign can.
  • There's no real conversion tracking or optimization — Meta isn't learning who actually becomes a customer, so it can't send your budget toward them.

Boosting has its place for the occasional post you want more people to see. But as a way to grow your business, it tends to spend money on vanity metrics.

What a full ad account does

Running ads through a proper ad account (in Meta's Ads Manager) unlocks the tools that actually drive business:

  • Real objectives — optimize for leads, phone calls, messages, or sales, not just reach.
  • Precise targeting — reach the right people based on intent, interests, location, and lookalikes of your best customers.
  • Conversion tracking and optimization — with your Meta Pixel connected, Meta learns who converts and shows your ads to more people like them.
  • Proper testing and reporting — so we can see what's working and put more budget behind it.

This is the difference between spending money to be seen and spending money to be chosen.

Why we run campaigns, not boosts

Outbound manages your Facebook and Instagram ads through a full ad account so every dollar works toward customers, not clicks for their own sake. Our team builds the strategy, sets the right objectives, and tunes the campaigns as they learn — the same hands-on approach we bring to all your ads. (More on that in How Does Outbound Use AI? and What to Expect After Your Ads Launch.)

To run real campaigns, you'll need a Meta ad account:
